Dan ClarkeDan is a seasoned leader of many campaigns aimed at reducing injury and illness in the workplace. For this work he has three times been awarded the Premier’s Award of Excellence for Project Management and has received the IPAC’s National Award for Innovative Management. Dan has led dozens of provincial, national and international groups towards developing win-win solutions to improve OHS. Using relatively simple engagement techniques Dan has helped organizations build the momentum they need to drive them towards outstanding safety performance.

Dan Clarke MHSc., ROH, CIH.  President

 

Dan Clarke is certified by the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists and the American Board of Industrial Hygiene and holds both ROH and CIH designations. Dan’s Undergraduate degree in Chemistry and a Master’s degree in Health Sciences have served him well in his career that has focused on dealing with OHS hazards in the workplace. For most of the first decade of his career Dan worked for a number of companies to establish chemical and hazardous material management systems and to conduct numerous industrial hygiene surveys and studies. During this period he worked in the petrochemical, oil and gas, mining, and radioisotope industries. In 1989 Dan joined the government of Alberta as the Provincial Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Coordinator and led the implementation of the then new WHMIS regulations in the province. As Provincial Occupational Hygienist and then Manager of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Legislation and Policy Dan was responsible for the development of the Alberta OHS Code and the current Occupational Exposure Limit process. Since then Dan has held a number of progressively more responsible positions culminating in the position of Executive Director of OHS for the province.

Clarke Consultants was established by Dan after leaving government to help companies excel through taking a more strategic approach to managing and implementing their OHS resources.  Over his career Dan has developed a number of skills that are of value to the project:

  • As a facilitator Dan has led dozens of provincial, national and international groups towards developing win-win solutions to improve  OHS
  • As a technical expert on occupational health and chemical hazards Dan has been asked to participate on a number of technical and governance committees including:
    • the Council of Governors for the Hazardous Materials Information Review Commission
    • the WHMIS Current Issues and Inter-jurisdictional Coordinating Committees
    • the Tri-National Working Group of OHS Experts established under the North American Agreement on Labor Cooperation
    • the Canadian Association of Administrators of Labor Legislation-OSH Working Group
    • the Provincial Advisory Committee on Public Safety and Sour Gas
    • the Ministers Advisory Group on Workplace Safety and
    • the Ministers Advisory Group on Occupational Cancer Prevention

 

Luisa Su MHSc., ROH.  Senior Consultant

Luisa SuLuisa has of 25 years progressive and diverse OHS experience with industry, government and consulting companies.  She is certified by the Canadian Registration Board of Hygiene and holds a Registered Occupational Hygienist designation.  As a manager of OHS programs she has real world experience in implementing OHS management systems for complex organizations.   Luisa is a skilled communicator that knows how to make complex ideas seem simple.

Luisa Su MHSc., ROH.  Senior Consultant

 

After completing her Master’s of Health Science Degree at the University of Toronto, Luisa started her career with the Government of Alberta as an Occupational Health and Safety Officer but was drawn towards the more in depth technical work that is only possible working with individual companies on specific projects. This led her to work as a Senior Industrial Hygienist with Dow Chemical, Monenco Consultants, the City of Edmonton, Capital Health, and HSE Services Inc.  She has a natural interest and expertise in ergonomics that comes with here undergraduate degree in kinesiology. Luisa then took on a management role at Grant MacEwan University with responsibility for implementing their health, safety and claims management systems.

Over her career Luisa has completed dozens of in-depth OHS projects, gaining experience in almost every industry in the province.
